With the gamut3 installed, your center pull machine becomes a sweep rowing machine. With the gamut3 on your erg, you can:
The standard gamut3 rigger comes with a feathering oar. For coaches, the combination of sweep rowing motion and feathering oar allows you to demonstrate and teach correct rowing technique in the training room.
Rowers and coaches who prefer to practice with a sweep motion now have that option. All of the monitoring features of the familiar center pull erg are retained. The ability to sweep row is especially useful in winter when crews are indoors off the water.
Switching sides in training can help equalize muscle development and joint loads. Sometimes, switching sides can allow athletes to work around injuries. With the gamut3, you have the option of cross training.
With the gamut3 in the training room, athletes not familiar with sweep rowing can try it out. You can introduce prospective rowers to sweep rowing without going on the water.
The gamut3 is primarily intended as a training machine rather than a testing machine. However, the gamut3 can be used for testing if so desired. Experience has shown split times are slower when sweep rowing. There is insufficient data and experience at this time to accurately compare center pull scores to sweep rowing scores.
Many masters and rowing club athletes do not have regular access to the water and training room, especially in the winter. Now masters and club rowers can sweep row at home using their existing erg.
